PROFILE

Charles Golding
With more than three decades spent across the landscape of television, radio, and print journalism, I have operated at various levels of the media process—as a writer, editor, producer, and presenter. This "360-degree" view, encompassing both the creation of content and the editorial control behind it, serves as the foundation for the media training and presentation coaching I provide today, to clients ranging from first-time speakers to seasoned executives, politicians and beyond.
My career began in the high-pressure orbit of Sir David Frost, researching for his book Who Wants to be a Millionaire?. From there, I joined the launch team of TV-am, moving from children’s programming into features as a producer and reporter, becoming a presenter and film critic for the flagship Good Morning Britain on ITV.
Transitioning to print, I joined the Sunday Mirror as features editor, where I commissioned interviews, edited stories and wrote a weekly video movie review. During this period, I also penned a regular column for the Jewish Chronicle and produced and presented BBC 1’s The Computer Show, anticipating the digital shift and the rapid evolution of new media that was to follow.
I wrote a book, Rats, the New Plague, published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson. It was an investigation into the history, biology and politics surrounding the rising population of rodents in Britain, following the privatisation of the UK water industry. The momentum towards print journalism continued at the Sunday Express, where I served as executive editor (features) and then deputy editor of the paper.
I then pivoted to radio as the Controller of Programmes for London News Radio. By relaunching the station as LBC, overhauling the talent line-up and editorial direction, I managed to increase the number of listeners by 41% to 632,000, with an increase of total hours listened by 88%. We also became the second most-listened-to radio station in London, knocking Capital Radio Gold off its perch, in the hyper-competitive London market. I ended up presenting my own daily features and news phone-in show on LBC, Charles Golding in the Afternoon.
This extensive background led to the creation of Bowtie Media (now Charles Golding Media). Working with top-tier PR firms, I provided media and presentation training to a diverse range of clients from the British Red Cross and Teletext to high-profile political figures. I worked closely with HRH Sophie, the Countess of Wessex (now HRH, the Duchess of Edinburgh) at her PR company RJH, training her commercial and media clients for high-stakes interviews on TV, Radio and in print. I became the media consultant to Dr. Philip Lee MP, a medical doctor and government minister, preparing him for media scrutiny in the national spotlight.
My career has always embraced the 'new', leading me to become editorial and content director of YooMedia, a pioneer in interactive television. I later returned to print as editor-in-chief of Totally plc, successfully relaunching the Jewish News in London and America’s oldest Jewish newspaper, the Jewish Advocate, in Boston, Massachusetts. Before relocating to Israel, I also headed communications and marketing for Norwood, a £40m UK-based Jewish charity providing care, education, and support for children and adults with learning disabilities and autism.
For nearly a decade, I have been based in Israel, adapting my coaching for the high-octane environment of the 'Startup Nation'. I have media trained the teams of NASDAQ-quoted giants like Imperva, Inc., Tenable, Foamix Pharmaceuticals, and FuturaGene, while simultaneously mentoring the next generation of talent. Through the prestigious HPNA Academy, I have coached dozens of graduates and young professionals, in next-step job interviews, public speaking and the art of the commercial presentation, and lectured students at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and soldiers of the Israel Defence Forces.
Still active on the public circuit, I continue media and presentation training, coaching the next generation in a young country, full of excitement and promise. I occasionally appear on Israel’s i24 NewsTV, and contribute op-eds for the Jerusalem Post and UK magazines, as well as ghost-writing for publications like Fortune magazine.
I am a poacher-turned-gamekeeper. It is this unique perspective—of both commissioning the story and telling it—that allows me to help clients master the art of public speaking. I believe the high-level rigour required for a global keynote is the exact same 'secret sauce' needed to ace a defining job interview or a high-stakes personal speech. By working both sides of the microphone and camera, I ensure my clients—whether seasoned or starting out—command the room with the insight of someone who knows exactly how the game is played.
